Avkash Jadhav is a
B.A (Gold Medalist) in History and has done Masters in History from
the University of Mumbai. He is the Head and Associate Professor in the Department of
History, University of Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, India. He also has Post
Graduate Diploma in
Human Rights and
Personal Counseling. The subjects he undertakes is
History, Human Rights, Mass Media, Indian Cinema, Travel and Tourism, Gandhian Studies,
Leadership Skills, Corporate Training, etc.
His Ph D is on the
Emergence and Growth of the Labour Movement in Bombay:
A
Historical study (1920-1945).

He has received various scholarships for his academic excellence like D. D. Kosambi
Scholarship, Dr. C. M. Kulkarni Scholarship, Dr. William, Coelho Scholarship, also awarded

The Asiatic Fellowship from The Asiatic Society, Mumbai, to undertake
studies on 'Gandhian Philosophy'.
He is also recipient of Travel grants for his academic pursuits from various institutions like
Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR), Indo-Sri Lanka Foundation and Qutub
Jubliee Foundation.
He recently received a
Major Research Project from
Indian Council for Historical
Research (ICHR) 2020 -2022 to work on the Mill Workers in Bombay in Pre Independent
Bombay.
He has more than 27 research publications. He has published his work on
Socio-Economic and
Cultural History of Mumbai, Co-authored the book
‘History of the U.S.A in the 20 th Century
and
History of Modern Maharashtra, Edited Book on
History of Modern India. His research

He was
Nominated as
the Municipal Councillor in the BMC (Brihan Mumbai Municipal
Corporation) as a Representative from Academic Section from 2012 to 2017, wherein he
suggested various policies for the benefit of the city of Mumbai and for the administrative
accountability. He was ranked amongst the
Top Ten Best Municipal Councillor of the City
out of 232 Municipal Councillors.
Some of his benchmark achievements as the Municipal Councillor are, raising the issue for
the protection of
Heritage, art, aesthetics and decor of Marine Drive, a coastal promenade
called the
Queens Necklace, discovered 53 Underground Water tanks 2,50,000 litres of
Static Water tanks as old as 100 years old, introduced the
Cultural Policy to be adopted for
the city of Mumbai to promote and protect tangible and intangible heritage, Instrumental in
getting the
Policy for Senior Citizens.
Introduced the Policy on having
First E- waste processing unit in the city of Mumbai,
Introduced the
Museum on Wheels a bus carrying the theme of the Museum to the
Municipal school Free of charges,
Policy on the maintenance, conservation and restoration
of heritage of Mumbai was accepted by the Municipal Corporation and it received the
sanction of Rs.5 cr
(50 million) for the same purpose in the Annual Budget of 2017-18,
Saved the Metro Subway at Marine Lines, Mumbai for the
Right of Pedestrians, proposed
the
Policy of Social Impact Analysis, Policy for the Insurance of the Fire Fighters of the
Mumbai City etc.
He Represented the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai (BMC), on the
Study Tours to
Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in 2016 and
Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Corporation in 2017 and in the
Stuttgart-Mumbai Business Conclave-2017 on the Special
recommendation of Hon. Mayor of Mumbai and by the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai
city.
He proposed various policies for the Urban Governance and Represented the Municipal
Corporation (BMC) in
BRICS Conference (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa)
